OBJECTIVES

Practical aspects of applying FRS 102 will be covered on this course – focusing in particular on emerging issues concerning financial instruments and component accounting.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Accountants who are involved in the preparation and/or audit of financial statements in accordance with FRS 102.

TOPICS

This course will revolve around a series of case studies examining:

  • Classification of debt instruments using the FRS 102 conditions
  • Worked examples of interest only and repayment loans including:
    • Determining the effective interest rate
    • Revising the interest charge when the effective interest rate changes
    • Dealing with renegotiation of loans
  • Establishing a fair value using the FRS 102 hierarchy
  • Accounting for major components of property plant and equipment under FRS 102
  • Accounting for major inspection costs concerning property plant and equipment under FRS 102
  • Reconsidering useful lives and residual values of property plant and equipment post transition to FRS 102
  • Other issues coming to the fore in the period leading up to the course
